Greater rhea

//Greater rhea

A pair of greater rheas arrived at the zoo at spring 2017.

It is about the biggest bird of the American continent(approximately 1m of top for 25 kg). Distributed in the pampas of South America, the rhea is known for its very fast running (60 km/hour with points in 80 km/hour). Threatened by the hunting and the conversion of its habitat for the benefit of the agriculture, the wild population is at present in decline.
