Convinced that the duty of zoological parks is to achieve high standards of animal welfare, Ecozoo des Sables has implemented a continuous improvement approach in terms of animal condition. Therefore, a large part of our actions focuses on the evaluation of the well-being of our residents and the implementation of actions in order to promote their positive experiences.
The evaluation of animal welfare is a complex task. We rely on a recent very effective method: the five-domain model. Scientific studies have shown that by simultaneously assessing nutrition, health, environment, behaviour and cognition, a good overall estimate of animal comfort is obtained.
